The Day Texas Sank into the Sea

I did manage to wring the last few drops of freedom from my holiday by going to see Micah P.Hinson in Bristol. I was in two minds about going to see him as it was just two days since I'd touched down at Heathrow and the journey back had been an absolute arse ache. Yet Micah P. was so good the last time I'd seen him at the Louisiana that I decided to go for it. On the way to the Thekla I called into a pub where my work colleges just happened to be having a leaving do and a free bar! Result! Then on the way to the gig, Gareth – my gig Kemosabe – and I saw Micah and he very kindly signed my album.

The gig was great, I love the Thekla as a venue, but weirdly this is the first time I've gone to a gig there since I've been working in Bristol, and we're talking nearly two years and my following gig was in the Thekla again. Micah P seems like a very fragile character which I guess adds a little tension to a gig. He reminded me a bit of Daniel Johnston.

Last night I was back on the Boat for Bo Ningen. A mad Japanese four piece who I was lucky enough to see at Swn last year.  Mate of mine Bill was in town and so came along and Bo Ningen repaid him by breaking his ruck sack. I really enjoyed the support band – Young Husband – who were pleasant old school psych-indie and one of the great things about the gig was the 10 o clock curfew which meant we were heading out of Bristol even before then! I love a band who are punctual.

Bristol Jeff aka Big Jeff aka Sideshow Bez loved both gigs but he was more animated at the Bo Ningen gig.
