Rock and Roll Psychosis

Despite there not being a full Swn festival there has been mondo mondo giggage for me recently.

I went to one of my favourite venues in Bristol – The Louisiana – on Monday the 22nd to see Honey blood, basically on the strength of their one single Super Rat. Getting the venue stupidly early with my Gig Kemosabe Gareth we both groaned when we saw that Honey blood were on at 10, which is a ball ache on a school night. At least there was only one mostly harmless support band on.

Honeyblood were good in a very 1996 Verruca Salt/Breeder Lite type of way and made an agreeable amount of beautiful noise for just two people. It's not often you see a female drummer and Honeyblood's drummer – Cat – was a real power house doubly impressive when you consider that she's a last minute replacement for the original drummer. Bought the album on vinyl after the show then homewards bound.

Wednesday found us at the Trinity for the final Bristol show from The Jim Jones Revue. They were the last band I saw in the much missed Cardiff Barfly and they are an explosion of Psycho Billy energy. It is quite novel these days for a band to be splitting up as opposed to getting back together and you've got to admire a band who decide to go out on top and with all guns blazing, They were on searing form despite Jim Jones having a mike which was feeding back quite badly. Also I always think that the Trinity is bigger than it is.

The Wednesday was also a landmark day for me as I handed my notice in. For the first time in over two years I'm going to be working back in Wales. I'm going to miss Bristol but not the commute and what this will mean for my gig quota remains to be seen.
